For you?
Would you like to gain a better understanding of how financial information helps organisations make strategic choices? In this management accounting course, you will learn how to analyse financial data for decision making and management purposes. The module also covers sustainability, ethics and international reporting.
The Financial and Management Accounting module demonstrates how organisations use financial information to guide policy, growth and change. You will not just learn to read figures; above all, you will learn to understand what they mean in practice. You will be working on areas such as financial statements, break-even analyses and budgeting.
During this module, you will develop the skills needed to carry out financial analyses more effectively. You will examine how organisations justify their financial decisions and how accounting contributes to transparency, control and value creation within complex organisations. You will also learn how financial information is used in international and changing markets.
The module is designed for professionals who want to communicate financial information more effectively and make better-informed decisions. You will learn to translate financial data into strategic insights that are useful to management, the board and other stakeholders. This will enhance both your financial insight and the value you bring to organisations.

Module content
What will you be doing?
Teaching methods
The module combines theory, practice and working together. During interactive workshops, you will discuss the key principles of financial and management accounting. You will apply this knowledge directly to real-world business cases and actual financial statements, for example from organisations operating internationally. This will help you quickly learn how to carry out financial analyses and gain a better understanding of what the figures mean for policy and decision-making.
You will work both independently and in teams with professionals from various disciplines and cultural backgrounds. Together, you will explore how to apply financial insights in a practical way within organisations. The course also covers international reporting standards, AI applications and critical thinking.
The focus is on active learning: you will get straight to work on analyses, discussions and practical assignments. The assessment consists of a traditional exam and a paper based on a realistic case study. You are encouraged to use AI responsibly as a tool to aid analysis and decision-making.
