Frequently asked questions about tech studies
Do I need to be good at math to study tech?
You don’t need to be an Einstein in mathematics for all programmes. It really depends on the programme you choose - check the requirements for the one you’re interested in.
What kind of jobs can I get after graduating?
Many Dutch companies actively seek talent in engineering, computer science, mobility, robotics, technology, and related fields.
What kind of projects will I work on as a student?
Universities of Applied Sciences are known for their practical approach to teaching, which means working on various projects with different stakeholders. Your client could be a company, a research group or a hypothetical case. The kinds of projects depend on your field of interest. For example, in the Process & Food Technology programme, you learn how to make cheese, brew beer, purify water and develop chemical products during your first year. Along the way, you develop initial ideas about how things can be done smarter, faster or cleaner.
Can I stay and work in the Netherlands after graduation?
Yes. Even if you need a visa to study in the Netherlands, you can apply for an orientation year after graduation, which allows you to stay for up to 12 months to find a job or start a business. During that time, you’re allowed to work without needing a separate work permit.
I decided to study in the Netherlands because it’s open to international students and has a growing IT scene. Life here is safe and student-friendly, though you do need to budget well - but if you’re ready to work hard, it’s totally worth it.
