Tuition fees
Let’s talk finances. Enrolling on a degree programme at THUAS also means that you must pay tuition fees. The information on this page applies to all bachelor, Ad and state-funded master programmes at The Hague University of Applied Sciences.
There are 2 different fees:
| 2025-2026 | 2026-2027 | |
| Statutory tuition fee | € 2.601,- | € 2.694,- |
| Institutional tuition fee | € 10.164,- | € 10.528,- * |
Important exceptions to these two options:
- Joint degrees:
If you are going to follow a joint degree programme, the above tuition fees may not apply to you. We advise you to visit the relevant programme page, where you will be referred to the partner university. Full-time English-taught master’s programmes:
If you are going to follow a full-time English-taught master’s programme with us and you are required to pay the institutional tuition fee, you will pay €14,000.If you are a full-time student who started an English-taught master’s programme before the 2026–27 academic year, a transitional fee applies to you. For the duration of the programme (and a possible delay of one year), you will pay the regular institutional tuition fee of €10,528.
Please note: If you are going to follow a part-time English-taught master’s programme with us and you are required to pay the institutional tuition fee, you will pay the regular institutional tuition fee of €10,528.
The Dutch government determines the amount of the statutory tuition fee. Universities of applied sciences and universities may determine the amount of the institutional tuition fee themselves. The criteria used by The Hague University of Applied Sciences for this purpose are: the statutory tuition fee and the government funding the university would otherwise have received, safeguarding accessibility, and simplicity and transparency. The amounts are determined annually.
Which fee applies to you?
The cost of your higher professional education (HBO) programme depends on three factors: your nationality/residence permit, whether you have already obtained a higher education diploma before, and which programme you are going to follow. You may pay the statutory tuition fee if…
- you’re an EU national, from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Suriname or Switzerland, or are eligible for student finance with your Dutch residence permit. For this you need a Type II, III, IV or V Dutch residence permit or, in some cases, a Type I residence permit; AND
- you have not previously obtained:
- an associate degree or bachelor’s degree at a university of applied sciences or university in the Netherlands and you are enrolling in a bachelor’s programme; or
- an associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or master’s degree at a university of applied sciences or university in the Netherlands and you are enrolling in an associate degree programme; or
- a master’s degree at a university of applied sciences or university in the Netherlands and you are enrolling in a master’s programme.
- Are you enrolling for the first time in a bachelor’s programme in healthcare or education? That’s great! For these programmes, you always pay the statutory tuition fee, even if you have already completed another bachelor’s degree.
If you do not meet the above conditions, you will pay the institutional tuition fee. The amount of tuition fees is based on the information known to The Hague University of Applied Sciences. If your details change, the tuition fee amount will be adjusted accordingly.
Please refer to the website of the Dutch government for information on the impact of Brexit on tuition fees for British nationals.

Important points to note:
- Make sure you arrange your payment as soon as possible, but no later than 31 August for a start on 1 September, or no later than 31 January for a start on 1 February.
Please note: If The Hague University of Applied Sciences applies for a residence permit for study on your behalf, you will pay the tuition fee as part of your package fee, and an earlier deadline applies. - If you start later than 1 September, your tuition fee will be adjusted proportionally. For each month of enrolment, you pay 1/12 of the applicable tuition fee.
How do you pay?
You or someone else (for example, a parent) gives authorisation for direct debit:
If you have a bank account (IBAN) from a country in the European Union, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Monaco, San Marino, or the United Kingdom, you can provide a direct debit authorisation via Studielink. This means you give The Hague University of Applied Sciences permission to debit the agreed amount from your account, or from someone else’s account (for example, your parents’). This can be done via Studielink as of 1 June.
You can choose to pay the full amount in one instalment or in 9 instalments.
An overview of debit amounts and instalment dates can be found in the FAQs. Please make sure there are sufficient funds in your account. If you miss a payment, please also refer to our FAQs to find out what to do.
Your employer pays:
We can also send an invoice to your employer. In that case, you and your employer must jointly complete a guarantee statement.
If you start your programme on 1 February, you may use this guarantee statement.
You already pay tuition fees at another university or university of applied sciences in the Netherlands:
In the case of a second programme or enrolment at another government funded university or university of applied sciences, you generally request a digital Proof of Paid Tuition Fees (BBC) via Studielink. This often also applies if you have registered via Studielink for a (Kies op Maat) minor.
- If you are unable to request a BBC via Studielink, you may use the form below.
Note: This only applies if you are eligible for the statutory tuition fee.
You want to transfer the tuition fee in one payment to the bank account of The Hague University of Applied Sciences:
Via Studielink, you can only provide a direct debit authorisation if you have a bank account from one of the countries listed above. If your bank is located in another country, you must pay the full tuition fee in one instalment.
Please find the full payment instructions on the confirmation form and don't forget to send a copy of the bank transfer along with the confirmation form.
For the February 2026 intake, please use this form.
Your tuition fee is part of your package fee payment:
If you need THUAS to apply for your Dutch residence permit (and entry visa), you will usually be asked to pay a package fee that includes your tuition fee.
Cancelling and deregistering during the academic year
Decided not to study at The Hague after all? That’s a shame! Make sure you deregister via Studielink before the start date of your enrolment (usually 1 September or 1 February). Until that date, deregistration is free of charge; after that, you will owe tuition fees, up to and including the month during which you submit your deregistration request – even if you’re not actually taking part in classes.
If you are eligible for the reduced statutory tuition fee, it is especially important to deregister on time. If you are enrolled in September and decide not to study after all, you will no longer be entitled to the 50% reduction in the following year.
For each month that you are enrolled, you owe 1/12 of the applicable tuition fee. You therefore pay tuition fees up to and including the month in which you deregister. This also applies if you do not attend classes.
If the amount you have paid up to the date of deregistration is higher than the amount you owe, you are entitled to a refund of the excess amount. The tuition fee administration will calculate this automatically and refund the overpaid amount to the bank account from which the tuition fees were paid. More information can be found on the Student Portal.
