We offer several professional skills classes during the programme. These are career-related workshops that help you to reflect on and define your career goals. We do not offer personal coaching. Pro degree programme certification
Will I receive a diploma after completing my Pro degree programme?
Depending on your degree programme and the results you achieve, you will receive a diploma or a certificate upon completion:
- an internationally recognised higher professional (HBO) education diploma upon completion of a master’s degree programme;
- a certificate upon completion of a post-graduate degree programme or a master’s module.
How does a Master's degree programme at a university of applied sciences differ from a Master's degree programme at a research university?
A Master’s degree programme at a university of applied sciences is vocationally based. You will apply what you have learned in your job right from day one. You will be given a research assignment from the organisation where you work. This will be based on your current role or the role you aim to perform (applied research). At a university of applied sciences, you follow a Master’s degree programme with a limited number of fellow students. This means that class sizes are small. It enables us to give a lot of attention to your development.
If you follow a Master’s degree programme at a research university, you will be asked to carry out academic research. This is more distant from actual practice. At a university, you will often be taught in large lecture halls, and you will have more online tutorials.
Admission requirements
How do I know if I meet the admission requirements of a Pro degree programme?
The admission criteria vary per degree programme. Go to the degree programme you are interested in and check what specific admission requirements are applicable. Are you unsure whether you meet the criteria? Contact Central Student Enrolment: +31 70 445 85 85 or [email protected].
What are the options if my English test score is not sufficient?
Please contact the Academic Preparation Course (PREP school) at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. They will help you acquire the English proficiency and study skills you will need for an international education at Dutch universities. You can choose between PREP schools that last for one year (starts in September) or six months (starts in February).
Study load
Is it possible to combine a Pro degree programme with a job and a personal life?
With the right planning and preparation, this is definitely possible. Because of your lessons and self-study, you have less free time than before. It helps to talk about it with your partner, children and friends. So that everyone knows what to expect in the coming period and how they can best support you. The study coach who supports you throughout your studies will be happy to offer you advice. For first-hand accounts and tips, you can also speak to current students during an information session, online or in person.
Work experience
Do I need work experience to enrol in a Pro degree programme?
For most Pro degree programmes, you need at least two years of relevant work experience. The exact duration will be assessed on the basis of your CV or an initial interview. As the Pro degree programmes are practice-oriented, you will need a relevant professional environment in which to carry out your assignments. You will discuss this during the initial consultation as well. Go to the degree programme you are interested in and check what specific admission requirements it has.
Does a work placement also count as work experience?
Yes, it does, but only if the work placement requires higher education or equivalent ability.
Immigration and visa
Where can I find information about immigration and visa?
Our Enrolment Centre created a page containing all the information on immigration and visas.
Can I work during my studies?
A non-EU/EEA student with a residence permit for study may work for a maximum of 16 hours per week during the academic year, or full-time during the months of June, July, and August. You cannot use both options at the same time.
Can I stay in the Netherlands after I have graduated?

During the induction day, you will be given information about the reading material we use during the degree programme. This can be provided digitally.
What funding options are available?
For the moment, parts of the training costs are (tax) deductible for Dutch private individuals. Call the Tax Information Line for more information on 0800-0543. In many cases, our students’ employers pay for part of or the entire degree programme. If you choose a Master’s degree programme, you may be able to use the Lifelong Learning Credit.
