Continuing your studies after your bachelor’s degree
Have you (almost) completed your bachelor’s degree and are you ready for the next step? A master’s programme allows you to deepen or broaden your knowledge in your field of study. You can choose to pursue a master’s degree at the university of applied sciences (hbo-master) or at a university (wo-master).
What is the difference between a master’s degree from a university and a master’s degree from a university of applied sciences?
A master’s degree from a university of applied sciences is equivalent in level to a master’s degree from a university. In both cases, you earn an internationally recognised master’s title (MA, MBA, MSc).
The difference lies mainly in the focus. A master’s degree from a university of applied sciences focuses on the practical application of research and maintaining a close connection to the professional practice. You work on projects that come directly from the professional field.
A master’s degree from a university is more theory-oriented and aims at solving complex academic issues. You study the subject in depth and are trained to develop new scientific insights.
Why choose a hbo-master
Direct progression, no pre-master required
Highest employability rate on the Dutch job market

A strong professional network
Practice-oriented research
Contribution to innovation
To me, the real added value of the master’s was its multidisciplinary and practice-oriented approach. You learn to collaborate and rely on each other’s expertise, just as in the professional practice.
