V for Vendetta (2005)

On Thursday 15 January, we’ll be watching V for Vendetta and discussing the film afterwards with lecturers Thijs Bos and Chris Heydra.

In the future, Great Britain has become a dictatorship. The government justifies the curtailment of freedoms by pointing to the threat of terrorism. A young woman, Evey (Natalie Portman), encounters the masked V (Hugo Weaving), seemingly the only person who dares to resist the oppression. Evey is captured, tortured, has her head shaved, and must decide whether to side with the rebel.

We watch films — and of course, we discuss them too. After the screening, we’ll talk about the movie’s themes, techniques, and cinematography together.
