The ‘PROF MEE!’ Initiative – Lecturer Professionalisation for a Humane Economy

Three universities of applied sciences are strengthening lecturers in ‘integrated thinking & acting’, so that are better equipped to train HEO students for sustainable and future-oriented action in a changing economy.

With the ‘PROF MEE!’ Initiative, The Hague University of Applied Sciences, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, and Inholland University of Applied Sciences join forces for the further professionalisation of (HEO) lecturers on 'integrated thinking and acting' (IT&A) issues, in order for them to apply their knowledge and skills to cover and teach the three interconnected themes, (i) Long-Term Value Investing, (ii) Multiple Value Creation in Supply Chains and (iii) Integrated Reporting & Control.

Background

Enterprises are looking for HBO-professionals who are capable of acting sustainably, socially, and with a future-oriented approach. Three-quarters of medium-sized enterprises expect major changes due to sustainability challenges, but find that educational programmes do not yet adequately prepare students for this. In this scenario, lecturers hold the key to success. With the right tools, they can teach students to look beyond financial gain and contribute to broad, sustainable value creation.

Approach

Developing a regional network of centres of expertise hubs focused on integrated thinking and acting. This helps us strengthen lecturers in teaching methods and content on the themes of (i) Long-Term Value Investing, (ii) Multiple Value Creation in the Supply Chain and (iii) Integrated Reporting & Control, and structurally embed this in curricula and train professionals who consistently steer towards long-term value, human dignity and ecological impact in their actions and decision-making. This enables them to fulfil their evolving role as professionals within higher education in economics. 

Impact objective

At least 120 lecturers from 35 HEO programmes are professionalising in teaching the themes (i) Long-Term Value Investing, (ii) Multiple Value Creation in the Supply Chain and (iii) Integrated Reporting & Control and embedding these themes in curricula and professionalisation structures.

Intended (intermediate) results

The project consists of three phases:

  1.  Expertise hubs for lecturer professionalisation: Developing and implementing a regional network of expertise hubs where lecturers professionalise in Integrated Thinking & Acting across the three themes: LTVI, MWK, and IRC. Focus on knowledge-sharing, experimenting with teaching methods, and embedding these approaches within curricula and professional development programmes.
  2. Learning about hubs as learning communities: Investigating and optimising expertise hubs as an effective means of lecturer professionalisation. The result is a guide setting out the framework conditions, working methods and best practices for setting up and utilising hubs within the HEO domain.
  3. Dissemination & communication: Making visible and disseminating the project's insights, results, and products through networks, meetings, and publications. Including the establishment of a physical and digital infrastructure for knowledge-sharing and community-building.
