Increasing sports and physical activity is not only an end in itself but also, increasingly, a means to realize the ambitions of adjacent policy domains, including well-being, education, and health. Based on this philosophy, the funding organization ZonMW has established the MOOI in Beweging program. With this program, the participating partners aim to initiate a movement that ensures research and innovations in the field of sports and physical activity are better aligned with practice. This is necessary to solve the complex challenges we face in society. MOOI in Beweging focuses on six complex societal challenges. The Hague University of Applied Sciences contributes to several of these.

The MOOI PASS group

The SPRONG MOOI PASS group is tackling three of the wicked problems, namely: 1) Residents in deprived neighborhoods participate in sports less, 2) Children and young people are less active and their motor skills are deteriorating, and 3) Sport and physical activity are underutilized within healthcare. The acronym of PASS stands for Professionalization to make a leap from local Action to System Change for Sport and Physical Activity. We do this through a partnership with eight universities of applied sciences affiliated with the Sport & Physical Activity Research Group. The MOOI PASS: With knowledge from research and through innovations, we contribute to solutions for these challenges.

Work packages

Through four interconnected work packages, we will work for eight years to strengthen learning networks. We will also set to work implementing knowledge to facilitate cross-disciplinary (sector/level) collaboration. Together, we are developing leadership, human capital, and a culture surrounding systemic change. We are committed to strengthening a living lab structure.

The Hague University of Applied Sciences, together with Arnhem Nijmegen University of Applied Sciences, is the lead partner for the Systemic Changes and Transitions work package.

Goal

The goal of this project is the growth and strengthening of a national research group into a powerful research group that contributes to increasing the societal impact of sport and physical activity in education and for health and well-being.

Duration

The project runs from March 2024 to February 2032.
