The Tour of Holland is back! After a 21-year absence, this prestigious multi-day cycling race will return to the calendar in 2025. The route passes through many different parts of the country, with the opening stage taking place as an evening event in The Hague. This offers a fantastic opportunity for The Hague to once again position itself as a top sports city by the sea. The Municipality of The Hague has partnered with The Hague University of Applied Sciences to conduct research around this opening evening stage.

Research

During the evening prologue, researchers and students from The Hague University of Applied Sciences conducted surveys at various locations along the course. The survey focuses on two main aspects.

First, the reach of the event is a key point of attention. The event takes place in Zuiderpark, but where do the visitors come from? Are they mainly residents of nearby neighborhoods, does the entire city turn out for the event, or are visitors also coming from outside the municipality?

In addition, the research aims to map the experience and significance of the event for visitors. By asking how much visitors enjoy the event and how proud they are that it takes place in The Hague, insights can be gained into how the event can be made even more successful in the coming years.
