For you?
How do you solve the societal sustainability challenges of today and tomorrow? In this part-time post-graduate programme, you’ll work on projects rooted in your own professional practice. This allows you to develop an interdisciplinary way of working, think critically, and create meaningful change in systems, processes, and decision-making within your organisation and beyond.
Have you ever heard of ‘wicked problems’? These are the societal sustainability challenges we face today. They’re so complex that there is no single, clear-cut solution. You can’t address them from just one perspective. What’s needed is a multidisciplinary approach. In other words: zoom out first, then zoom in – and collaborate. That’s exactly what you’ll learn in our Post-graduate Programme in Sustainability Transitions.
In this post-graduate programme, you’ll learn to think critically – viewing challenges through a range of expert lenses and from sometimes conflicting perspectives. You’ll explore the interests of diverse stakeholders and examine the role of power in decision-making processes. Working across disciplines is challenging, as it requires acknowledging that no single professional holds the complete picture. That’s why we equip you with practical tools to connect disciplines, facilitate collaboration, and tackle complex sustainability issues effectively.
The content of this programme encourages you to look at the world differently in order to develop meaningful and actionable solutions. You’ll engage with questions such as: Where does the status quo fall short in contributing to a healthy and sustainable world? And how can you, as a professional, help change this for the better? This is how we confront pressing sustainability challenges – with courage, care, and leadership.

Programme content
What will you be doing?
Teaching methods (optional)
Projects
The curriculum of this post-graduate programme consists of 80% project-based learning. In these projects, you’ll actively work on sustainability transitions in real-world contexts. You’ll be fully engaged in practice. Most projects take place outside the university, at authentic project locations within organisations and professional networks.
Interdisciplinary
This post-graduate programme teaches you how to work in an interdisciplinary way. This happens naturally, as participants come from diverse professional and academic backgrounds. By collaborating on projects, you’ll learn to broaden your perspective. Each participant brings their own expertise and, therefore, a unique viewpoint. At times, these perspectives may conflict. You’ll learn how to navigate and leverage these differences constructively.
Coaching
There is a strong emphasis on coaching throughout the programme. You’ll work on your personal and professional development in parallel with the content. Together with your mentor, you’ll determine the focus areas based on your background, professional context, and project work. One thing is certain: you’ll strengthen your ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and persuasively. You’ll also learn how to deal with high levels of uncertainty and further develop your personal leadership skills. Turning insight into action — that’s what this programme is about.
Minors (optional)
In your third year, you have the amazing opportunity to specialise as a product designer during a minor! Within THUAS you could take the Design with Nature minor or the Packaging Design & Innovation minor. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, you can explore something completely different, like a minor in photography or Spanish. You could even spend a semester at another university in or outside The Netherlands! With your minor, you'll be working on your identity as an open innovator, and you'll be ready to make a splash in the job market!

Support during your studies
Example text
We offer assistance during your studies. Studying in combination with your job is quite a challenge, which is why we offer guidance and support. A study coach guides you during study meetings at school and at your workplace. Together, you map out your desired study path in relation to your workplace and draw up a personal plan on how you want to shape your studies and personal development. In addition to your study coach, you are able to contact our psychologist, confidential counsellor, student counsellor, or the Career Centre for any other questions or issues you may encounter. For more information about student counsellors/student psychologists, top-level sports, assistance with the Dutch language or studying with a disability, please visit our page about ‘support during your studies’.
