The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) has officially joined the UNINOVIS European University Alliance, a network of eight European higher education institutions. This alliance enables innovative education, cross-border research, and developments in the fields of data science and artificial intelligence. For us at THUAS, this partnership provides students, lecturers, and researchers with new opportunities to collaborate internationally, share knowledge, and contribute to societal impact.

Strategic partnership with international significance

According to our head of Executive Board, Elisabeth Minnemann, the partnership aligns closely with the ambitions of the university. “We are proud to be part of this dynamic European network shaping the future of applied data science. UNINOVIS fits seamlessly with our mission to educate students as global citizens who contribute to a smarter, safer, and more sustainable world.”

New opportunities for students and staff

Local coordinator Jerke Verschoor emphasizes the strategic importance of UNINOVIS for THUAS. “UNINOVIS helps us further develop an international and flexible learning environment, where students can design their own learning paths and staff have ample opportunities for knowledge exchange. Studying will become more personalized and international for students. They will be able to learn from lecturers and researchers in other countries without barriers, while also accrediting their knowledge through microcredentials.”

Contributing to societal impact

The collaboration goes beyond education alone. Within UNINOVIS, partners work together on societal themes such as digitalization, sustainability, and innovation. Verschoor explains that this also strengthens The Hague’s position as an international city of peace, justice, and innovation. “Education plays an important role in societal progress. By participating in UNINOVIS, we contribute not only to forward-looking education but also to the knowledge position of our city and region.”

Looking ahead

In the coming years, THUAS aims to actively contribute to the alliance’s ambitions, particularly in the areas of lifelong learning, digital and green transition, and societal impact. According to Verschoor, “With UNINOVIS, we are building a cross-border network where students, lecturers, and researchers learn and innovate together. This perfectly reflects our THUAS identity: international, engaged, and focused on impact.”
