THUAS contributes to new WHO/Europe advisory group on Artificial Intelligence for Health
26 November 2025
We contribute to a WHO/Europe initiative that supports countries in implementing AI safely, ethically and inclusively in healthcare, with a focus on transparency, human rights and responsible use.
WHO/Europe has launched a new Technical Advisory Group on Artificial Intelligence for Health (TAG-AI) to support countries in the ethical, responsible and equitable use of AI technologies within health systems. The group, composed of ten experts selected from more than 330 applicants, will advise the WHO Regional Office for Europe under its Digital Health Action Plan 2023–2030.
TAG-AI will focus on key issues such as governance, regulation, capacity-building and the safe integration of emerging AI tools, including machine learning and natural language processing. The group will also support Member States in evaluating AI systems to ensure transparency, safety, human rights protection and equity, particularly for low-income and underrepresented communities.
The UNESCO Chair Data Science & AI for Society at The Hague University of Applied Sciences is closely involved in this initiative through the participation of Professor Lampros Stergioulas, who contributes his expertise in data science, digital health and responsible AI. His role reflects the Chair’s broader mission to advance trustworthy, human-centred AI and to strengthen international collaborations that benefit society.
Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, emphasised the competitive nature of the group’s selection and the importance of diverse expertise to guide AI policy and implementation across the region.
The involvement of THUAS in TAG-AI highlights the university’s increasing engagement in global discussions on digital transformation and its commitment to supporting the development of ethical and inclusive technology for the public good.
