19 March 2025
AI enthusiasts, professionals and students gathered to learn more about the latest AI developments and engage in discussions.

On March 13, Pie & AI, hosted by Vikram Mark Radhakrishnan, took place at THUAS. AI enthusiasts, professionals and students gathered to learn more about the latest AI developments and engage in discussions. The program featured a dinner (with pie), two presentations and a networking session.
With great power comes great responsibility
Nilay Aishwarya (XAI Software Engineer at Deeploy) started the evening with a presentation on the challenges and solutions surrounding Responsible AI.
His key message? "With great power comes great responsibility." He emphasized the importance of taking practical steps to implement AI ethically and responsibly. This requires well-informed model development, secure and scalable deployment, proactive monitoring, and strong collaboration between humans and AI.
The potential of AI in analyzing large-scale satellite data
Next, Michael de Winter (Full Stack Data Scientist at the Province of South Holland) presented a case study on detecting aquatic plants using satellite imagery. He explored the limitations and possibilities of AI when analyzing large amounts of satellite data.
"Satellite imagery does not replace other methods but rather complements measurements such as drones, aerial photos, and field studies." He highlighted the ongoing need for manual annotation, where humans label images to help train AI models in accurately recognizing aquatic plants.
Engaging discussions and new connections during the networking session
The networking session provided a great opportunity for participants to connect with fellow AI enthusiasts. Engaging discussions emerged on the future of AI and its applications across various sectors.
