Studying with a disability or special circumstances
Perhaps you suffer from dyslexia or have a hearing or visual impairment or physical disability.. Studying then may be difficult. But there is no reason why you cannot enrol in a degree programme at a university of applied sciences. The Hague University of Applied Sciences offers customized facilities that can help make studying easier for you. At our four locations we take your (im)possibilities into account as much as possible.
Let us know!
In order to help you as much as possible right from the start of your studies, we ask you to let us know when registering whether you think your circumstances could affect your studies. You will then be invited to meet with a student counsellor. We will then look together with you at the possibilities for customized facilities or adjustments.
If you have any questions, you can always send an email to [email protected].
Examples circumstances and facilities
What do we mean by special circumstances? And what facilities are possible? That differs for each person and situation. Below are some examples.
Examples of special circumstances
Disability or disease: A disability can be visible because you are blind, or in a wheelchair. But it can also be an invisible disease or disability such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, diabetes, epilepsy, psychological or mental complaints. Or a temporary situation after surgery.
Family circumstances: All kinds of things can be going on at home that make studying difficult for a while. For example, if you are pregnant, have an addicted parent, brother or sister, or if you care for a sick or needy family member (informal care).
Examples of facilities or support
Everyone has their own situation and needs. This varies from student to student. Below are a few examples of possible facilities or support:
Examination facilities such as extra examination time, tests taken in a quiet room, alternative test format
Use of special reading and speech software
Extra (study) support
The question is always which facilities or arrangements suit you and what is feasible within your program. We advise you to make an appointment with one of the student counsellors. Together with you, he will look at the possibilities for customized facilities. Preferably before you start your studies.
