Team Multilevel Regulation

Dr. Barbara Warwas has been employed at THUAS since 2016 in roles as coordinator and lecturer at the International and European Law Programme. In 2018 she was appointed as Professor of Multilevel Regulation.  Barbara is the author of The Liability of Arbitral Institutions: Legitimacy Challenges and Functional Responses published by Springer, 2016. 

Sylvia’s research focuses on multi-level governance issues in the areas of climate change adaptation (especially heatwaves), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and public safety, climate change policing and environmental crime, as well as future professionals’ skills to achieve the SDGs. She is also associate professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam. 
 

Szilvia is a lecturer in Public International Law at THUAS and a researcher within the Centre of Expertise Global and Inclusive Learning. Previously, her research focused on environmentally fuelled (sexual) violence against Indigenous women, particularly examining the interplay between environmental factors, colonialism, and the root causes of conflict. She was also one of the contributing authors of the UN report Gender, Climate and Security, coordinated by the UN Environment Programme. She is currently exploring various aspects of human security.

Kanan’s research activities center around bringing innovative thinking in the way law is practiced and created. She investigates the role of technology and human-centered design in developing newer solutions. She is also engaged with the LegalTech startup world, emphasizing the entrepreneurial and innovative thinking.

Maja Frysz is the Co-Director and Chief Innovations Officer (CIO) of Arbitras, a student-led organization at The Hague University of Applied Sciences that promotes alternative dispute resolution (ADR). After excelling in communications, she now focuses on innovation, driving creative initiatives and capturing key moments of Arbitras with her camera.

Dr. Vasileios P. Karakasis is a lecturer in European Studies at The Hague University of Applied Sciences and a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the Southeast Europe Program of ELIAMEP. He previously worked as a lecturer in International and European Governance at Leiden University, where he earned his PhD in Governance and Global Affairs.

Amanda Kemshaw is both the coordinator and a lecturer in the Dispute Resolution Minor, Advocacy & Conflict Management and Trial Practice modules and has a particular research interest in alternative dispute resolution mechanisms including mediation and international arbitration. She is also a lecturer in the LAW programme. 

Agnes Macedo de Jesus explores how purpose-centred, regenerative pedagogies can foster self-authorship, relational awareness, and planetary responsibility in higher education.

Member of the Confederation of European Probation, European Forum for Restorative Justice and the Netherlands Helsinki Committee. Her current research projects explore the intersection of climate change and policing, (im)possibilities of restorative justice in a time of war(s), and the role of creative assignments in higher education.

Dr. Agota Szabo is a Senior Lecturer in board governance and leadership at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Her research interests lie in civic leadership, non-profit management, board behavior and good governance practices of the boardroom. Next to her academic and lecturing activities Agota serves as a board advisor to large not-for-profit and non-governmental organizations.

With a background in business and administration from her studies in Finland, her research interests focus on emerging climate-related offenses.
