Platform for Electrification Skills and Competences (P4ELECS) addresses a critical need in the energy sector by providing practical competences and skills for projects that are essential to the energy transition.

– Pepijn van Willigenburg, Project Manager

Introduction

The earlier ERASMUS+ Capacity Building for Higher Education project DCT-REES, coordinated by The Hague University of Applied Sciences, developed a modular approach to education through so-called 'Notes'. P4ELECS builds on this concept by transforming these Notes into flexible 'Building Blocks' that enable educators to create customised courses while giving learners direct access to focused knowledge.

Project Background

The energy transition requires a faster transfer of knowledge from research into education and practical application. Vocational and higher education programmes do not always keep pace with technological developments, while educational institutions face increasing pressure from limited budgets and declining student numbers. International collaboration offers opportunities to jointly develop high-quality educational materials and make expertise more widely available.

Objective

To streamline the transition from research to implementation and promote international exchange of knowledge through an integrated learning system focused on electrification.

Target Group

The project is aimed at:

  • Educational institutions and teachers
  • Students and professionals
  • Higher education and vocational education providers
  • Companies and training organisations
  • Public authorities and innovation support organisations

Method

Educational content is developed as modular Building Blocks that can be combined into customised courses following the CDIO methodology (Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate). These modules are hosted on a Building Block Platform and tested through international courses, train-the-trainer programmes, company training, and lifelong learning initiatives, including micro-credentials.

Results

P4ELECS will create more than 200 learning modules and 24 courses for around 500 participants. The project also develops long-term local and international skills ecosystems involving more than 100 stakeholders. By connecting education, research, industry, and public authorities, P4ELECS strengthens both vocational excellence and innovation capacity.

Impact

P4ELECS reduces the gap between research, education, and professional practice. By providing flexible and up-to-date learning pathways, the project supports both initial education and the upskilling and reskilling of professionals. In doing so, it contributes to a future-ready workforce and accelerates the energy transition across Europe.
