The core of the platform consists of professors from the eight sports universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands; together, this forms the Hogescholen Sport Overleg (HSO). The platform is supported by the Knowledge Centre for Sport & Exercise.

Mission

The mission of the Professors' Platform is to increase the impact of practice-oriented sports and physical activity research on society and higher professional education. Through this, the platform aims to ensure that people participate in more sports and physical activity.

Themes

The professors' platform focuses on four themes derived from an extensive survey among sports and physical activity professionals, administrators, policymakers, and educators. In 2021, this was formalized in a practice-oriented knowledge and innovation agenda for sports and physical activity.

The four themes are:

  •  The Netherlands in motion.
  • Skilled in sports and physical activity.
  • The multifaceted value of sports and physical activity.
  • Technology as a curse and a blessing in sports and physical activity.

Goals

The Sport & Exercise Research Platform works towards its central mission by focusing on the following goals, namely:

  •  strengthening the position of practice-oriented sport and exercise research in the Netherlands;
  • strengthening substantive collaboration, including by writing joint research proposals;
  • increasing societal impact through knowledge sharing and the implementation of research results in the professional field and in higher professional sports and exercise education;
  • strengthening the international position and cooperation with foreign countries.

This can be summarized in four words: positioning, programming, valorizing, and internationalizing.

Duration

This project runs from 2023 to 2026.
