Green Office

Since the beginning of 2024, we have officially had a Green Office at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. The Green Office is a student-run platform that undertakes initiatives that raise awareness about sustainability and help fellow students and colleagues at school or at home to make sustainable choices. In doing so, the Green Office contributes to De Haagse's ambition to help build a sustainable and just society. 

The Green Office can also actively contribute to curriculum change through students' concrete experience of De Haagse' education. Furthermore, it is involved in The Hague's research on sustainability.

Events

Awareness and behavioural change are certainly something the Green Office also wants to encourage through events and experiences. For instance, we organised a food market at our Sustainable Tuesday and hosted the premiere of Amazonia , a film about the Amazon region and the indigenous peoples who live there. Together with the facilities company, we regularly organise trash walks around De Haagse to clean up litter.

Worldwide, many universities and colleges have a Green Office within their walls because of the large footprint educational institutions have and the extensive opportunities to make a positive impact; just think of the large community we have as The Hague University of Applied Sciences, with more than 26,000 students and over 2,600 employees. Not to mention the tens of thousands of alumni.

Sustainable Volunteers

Within THUAS, the Green Office is building a network of Sustainability Ambassadors in each faculty, so that students can have as much influence as possible on a sustainable culture and sustainable behavioural change within The Hague, as well as on the education on offer. The Green Office also collaborates with researchers within the university.

Interested in becoming an ambassador?

As a student, are you passionate about sustainability and want to contribute to a greener college? Then join our team as a Sustainability Ambassador! You can then collaborate on sustainable initiatives or propose them yourself. In exchange for your efforts, we will organise relevant training and in-depth sessions around, skills, sustainability themes and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in a variety of forms.
