On Monday 9 November, ECHO, the Centre of Expertise on Diversity, and THUAS are hosting the fourth National Conference on Internship Discrimination in Higher Education. Employers, education professionals, policy-makers and students will come together to share experiences and explore solutions. This year, the focus is on the role of employers. Register now and join the conversation!

From Awareness to Action

The conference opens with a keynote speech titled ‘Fairness in Internships Starts with Acknowledging the Problem’, delivered by Ercan Büyükçifçi, Strategic Adviser on Inclusion. He will explain why tackling internship discrimination starts with acknowledging what is going wrong.

Next, employers will share their experiences during a panel discussion. Among the speakers are Kobi Ampoma (HEINEKEN), Jennifer Vink (Staedion) and entrepreneur Rahma el Mouden. They will discuss how organisations can help create a more inclusive internship environment.

Take Action

During two rounds of workshops, participants will explore topics such as unconscious bias, objective recruitment and selection, and inclusive internship supervision. They will also discuss how educational institutions and employers can take shared responsibility.

Students will conclude the conference with a panel discussion about their own internship experiences. Afterwards, participants can continue the conversation over drinks.
