THUAS joins EnergieRijk Den Haag
4 June 2025
On Tuesday 11 June, we will welcome EnergieRijk Den Haag (ERDH) to our main campus. ERDH is a collaborative initiative in which a wide range of partners work together to accelerate the energy transition in The Hague.

During this gathering, THUAS will officially join ERDH, along with Haaglanden Medical Center and Inholland University of Applied Sciences and sign the Green Citydeal.
What is the Green Citydeal?
The Green Citydeal represents an important step towards a fossil-free future. It builds on the European Green Deal, which aims to make Europe climate-neutral by 2050. In The Hague, public authorities, businesses and knowledge institutions are joining forces to make buildings more sustainable through a collective approach.
EnergieRijk Den Haag focuses on energy efficiency, cross-building strategies and, where necessary, the local generation of renewable energy. This is achieved by intelligently linking systems such as thermal energy storage and solar panels that generate both heat and electricity (PVT panels). The goal of ERDH is to achieve fully fossil-free energy use by 2040 in The Hague’s city centre and the World Forum district.
What does this mean for THUAS?
By joining this initiative, THUAS becomes part of a network of partners committed to accelerating the energy transition in a collective and area-based way. Together with ERDH, we will work on a concrete use case: making our main campus at Johanna Westerdijkplein more sustainable (Paris Proof). This demonstrates that we not only develop and share knowledge on sustainability, but also actively apply it in our own operations.
Transition to a sustainable future
This partnership directly supports one of THUAS's four strategic pillars: contributing to a sustainable and just world. We take responsibility as a knowledge institution, as an employer and as the owner of publicly significant real estate.
