From research to impact during the Day of sports research
17 November 2025
This year, THUAS, together with TU Delft, organized an innovative edition of the Day of sports research, with collaboration and societal impact at its core.
Annemarie de Witte, senior lecturer at HALO and researcher at the research group Healthy Lifestyle in a Stimulating Environment, took charge as project leader. “We work a lot with researchers from other universities of applied sciences and universities, but all in different research groups. Having everyone come together once a year to share knowledge is incredibly relevant.”
The theme “From research to impact, together we move” was central throughout the day. Annemarie explained: “On the one hand, it’s about practical research: what does society gain from it? On the other hand, it’s about collaboration, and informal connections are just as important. We believe that you only create impact when you build these bonds together.”
Active and relaxed
Under the guidance of former cyclist and chair of the day Marijn de Vries, participants explored topics such as technological innovations, youth participation, and collaboration in the professional field during breakout sessions. In between, there was also room for movement: participants played an energetic game of beach volleyball or enjoyed a relaxing walk through the park.
Marijn emphasized the importance of connection, also for the students present: “Students can learn a lot from an event like this. As a student myself, I would have loved to experience something like this.”
The link between students
The support of our students ensured a smooth organization. Fourth-year HALO students Jonathan and Olivia guided the first- and second-year students who assisted with the event. Jonathan shared: “For us as students, the learning lies in the process of how to organize an event. Students support the event and make sure everything around the sessions runs smoothly. We are the link between the other students and the project team.” Olivia added: “The further you progress in your studies, the more you start organizing. We know the steps you take on a day like this, and we can guide the first-year students in that process.”
Healthier and more active
For THUAS, this edition was about more than just sharing knowledge. It was an opportunity to show how education, research, and practice reinforce each other. Sharing knowledge and working together toward a healthier and more active society literally sets new research in motion.
