On 16 June 2022, Monique Berger, together with the members of her research group, will present the research themes and ambitions of the Technology for Inclusive Movement and Sport Research Group. It promises to be a great afternoon, including a lively panel discussion with interesting guests from the field of rehabilitation, exercise and sport. The research group’s ambition

Even though there is still much to be gained in the field of inclusive movement and sport, Monique also sees positive developments in society: ‘There is more focus on parasports. In addition, figureheads such as Bibian Mentel, Esther Vergeer and Jetze Plat are inspirations for children and adults to do exercise. And the resources are also increasingly improving. With technological developments such as a 3D printer, we can produce something tailor-made more quickly.’ This is badly needed, because now only 25% of people with a disability do sport once a week, compared to 60% of people without a disability. ‘The ambition of the research group is to make that difference a lot smaller. And the best thing of all, of course, would be if the word inclusive were no longer needed in the name of this research group.’

About Monique Berger

Since January 2021, Monique Berger has been professor of Technology for Inclusive Movement and Sport, part of the Health Innovation Centre of Expertise at THUAS. During her inaugural lecture on 16 June 2022, she will present the research themes and ambitions of the research group, together with her fellow group members. Physical restrictions or pain during sport can get in the way of the joy of exercising. Also, the supply and/or tools needed for exercise and sports are not always adapted to wishes and possibilities.

The Technology for Inclusive Movement and Sport Research Group is committed to giving people with disabilities as many opportunities to exercise and play sports as people without disabilities. The research group is a collaboration between Basalt and THUAS in the area of innovation, knowledge development and research.
