Data breach at Canvas provider Instructure

Several Dutch universities have been affected by the data breach at the Canvas provider Instructure. The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) does not use Canvas for its educational processes. However, it is possible that students or staff are connected via external partners to institutions that use Canvas. At this moment, we are assessing to what extent this applies.

Are you a student or staff member and do you use Canvas via another educational institution? Then carefully follow the communication from that institution. They will inform you about any potential consequences.

We advise everyone who uses (or has used) Canvas to remain extra alert for phishing in the coming period:

• Be alert to suspicious emails, text messages, or phone calls.
• Do not click on links or open attachments if you do not fully trust the sender.
• Never share passwords or verification codes.
