The city’s plan for student housing offers perspective
4 September 2025
THUAS retains hundreds of student accommodations each year for our international first-year and exchange students. Unfortunately, this often proves insufficient, and sometimes we find desperate students at our front desk...

That’s why we’re very pleased with the city’s plan for student housing. This collaboration between educational institutions in The Hague, the municipality, and DUWO aims to further develop the city as a hub of knowledge, with sufficient student housing and a pleasant living environment.
Student Success
Elisabeth Minnemann, chair of the executive board: “Students are a vital part of our city’s ecosystem. Employers are asking for more fresh talent, and the city’s educational institutions are training students for a wide range of crucial sectors. To attract these students, there must be enough housing available. The availability, affordability, and quality of student housing directly affect enrollment, student well-being, academic success, and the city itself. With this action plan, we are jointly committing to that goal.”
Spare Room?
In addition to structurally building more student housing, we’re also looking at vacant properties and continuing to promote and encourage room rentals through host arrangements. This can be a win-win situation for both the landlord and the student. For example, through Hospihousing, a platform specifically focused on room and host rentals. They have all the knowledge and expertise needed and guide hosts through every step. So, do you have a spare room, or do you know someone who would enjoy temporarily hosting a student?
