Our vision for education
At THUAS, our educational vision sets out what characterises us as a university of applied sciences, the aims we pursue in our education, and the direction in which we want to develop. The vision aligns with the Strategic Plan 2023-2028: Inquiry-based learning with impact.
More choice
In the coming years, we will work hard to realise this vision. One of our main aims is to structure our education in a uniform and modular way. This means that every degree programme at THUAS will consist of standard units, with mandatory choices, elective choices, and interdisciplinary modules. This will make it easier to combine and move between programmes.
Hence, students will have more options: they will be able to accelerate or slow down their studies more easily, explore subjects in greater depth or broaden their scope. Perhaps you would like to take modules in another degree programme or at a different faculty. In the future, this will be much easier. Naturally, we will also ensure that student support is offered everywhere in a recognisable and comparable way.
THUAS themes
An important element of the vision is the set of THUAS themes: sustainability & justice, digitalisation & AI, internationalisation & inclusion. These themes will be clearly and demonstrably reflected in every degree programme.
In addition, all our education has five important features:
We educate change agents in a connected world
Our education is developed in co-creation with research and the professional field
We facilitate active learning
Our learning environment and support are inclusive
We offer opportunities for personalised learning pathways
Taking a broad perspective
Collaboration across disciplinary boundaries is becoming ever more important in our increasingly complex society. That is why we teach you how to do this in all our degree programmes. You learn to work across disciplines with fellow students, researchers, lecturers, and practice partners. You learn to view issues from different perspectives so that you can arrive at new solutions to societal challenges together.
Towards the future
With this vision, we are preparing for the education of the future. In the coming years, education in the Netherlands will increasingly be organised in collaboration with other institutions. Together, we can deliver even better quality and align more closely with the educational needs of society. For that, we need to be prepared organisationally. We are now taking the first steps towards this.
In 2026, we started the further development of the first degree programmes. We always start with the first year of a degree programme, so that students experience as little disruption as possible during the transition. Each subsequent year, we adapt the next year of study.
