Join us for an interactive guest lecture led by Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Kim van Sparrentak, as she discusses the latest European Union regulations addressing digital addiction.
The European Parliament (EP) has recently adopted a report -the rapporteur of which is MEP Van Sparrentak- warning of the addictive nature of online games, social media, streaming services, and online marketplaces, which exploit users’ vulnerabilities to capture their attention and monetize their data. The Parliament also expressed a strong desire to increase consumer protection through safer alternatives, even if these are not as profitable for social media platforms. MEP Kim van Sparrentak will discuss the EP report and the need to address the ever growing concern of digital addiction, particularly amongst young people.
