Embodied Freedoms
8 May 2025 - 13 May 2025

Korzo presents, on the day we celebrate 80 years of freedom, a series of films that make various embodiments of freedom tangible. "Embodied Freedoms" is a project that explores the boundaries of freedom, identity, and movement through four short dance films.
In these films, various performers and choreographers answer the question: What does freedom mean to you?
Each of the creators brings a unique perspective. Ukrainian choreographer Vladyslav Detiuchenko and Iranian Roshanak Morrowatian were both forced to flee their homeland. Physical theater maker Esmée Begemann investigates in much of her work the traces of intergenerational trauma left in the body. The final film was created by a group of young people, part of the Get Moving program at Korzo (Sedra van Ruijven, Yadhira De León Matos, Olin Bikker, Lilian Kafa), who, under the guidance of choreographer Junady Leocaria, created their answer to the central question.
Everyone’s experience with (lack of) freedom results in beautiful videos that explore the fragile yet valuable meaning of freedom and how it manifests in physical space.
The four dance films, each two minutes long and created by filmmaker and documentary maker Ciska Mei, form the core of the project and serve as conversation starters about personal freedom and freedom of movement.
